Obviously a lot has happened since my last natural hair update almost a year ago. I will have to post all the pics that happened before this and after my last update, but here I am 4 years later (even though two years were wasted when I didn’t know the weekly blow drying and flat ironing would cause heat damage and I had to cut off that damaged hair last September) I made a lot of progress. And as you see, my go-to style is still the wash and go!
Here is a before and after picture of my natural 3c/4a hair blow dried, and after going an entire year without using any heat to straighten my hair. As you see I have major shrinkage when my hair is in it’s natural state, but the curls are clearly coming in and my hair is growing!
Finally! I am starting to not be so uptight about my natural hair and what I am do with it. I am letting it down!
It has been seven months since I have completely stopped straightening my natural hair with blow drying and flat ironing. Ever since, my style has pretty much been exactly the same – wearing it in a banana clip! But now since my hair is growing back, it’s time to change up my look again, like I normally do every so often.
OMG Look at my natural hair! It is very WILD…just like my radio show WILD CARD WEDNESDAY! This picture was taken right before I put coconut 100% organic coconut milk in it. I was told that the coconut milk with help my hair lock in the moisture, but honestly I felt gross with it in my hair. Not to mention, it didn’t shine and bounce like I read it on a popular site for girls with curly hair! Oh well, guess nothing beats my own customized natural hair method.
Natural Hair Update
I had been the Dominican Salon’s best customer for the last 7 years and didn’t miss a week of my blow dry and flat iron hair routine. After two years and four months of being natural, and 5 months of straight wash and go hair, I now have ten different curl patterns and jar loads of product. More
I’ve been wearing this same natural hairstyle to work for the last 3 days since deciding not to straighten it. What else can I do with this thing? 🙁
I’ve been growing out my natural for almost two years now…actually my exact two year anniversary for starting my chemical-free hair challenge is August 5th :-). The bad news is, I’ve never done a style to showcase my natural hair, which is resulting in some heat damage. 🙁 So I made the decision to stop putting so much heat on my hair every week by not blow drying or flat ironing my hair until it’s bone straight, and come up with a hairstyle that looked decent on me.
